Saludecio is a village situated on an important communication route: Rimini – Urbino – Rome. At the time when Elisabetta Renzi was born, it had a population of 4,000 inhabitants: it could be considered the small capital of the valley, so to speak, for its wealth, for the intellectuals born there, and for being the seat of the ‘podesta’ [mayor] who had the power to decide on civil and criminal cases.

The religious life of the village centered around the only church in the town square, dedicated to St. Blase. The hermit monks of the church of St. Jerome and the Benedictine nuns, whose convent was a half kilometer out of the village wall, had a strong influence on the religious life of the village, as well as the strong personality of the pastor Fr. Domenico Fronzoni.
